UP DEFENCE CORRIDOR
Defence Industrial Corridors:
In keeping with the 2018-19 budget announcement, two Defence Industrial Corridors have been established in the country - one in Uttar Pradesh and another in Tamil Nadu.
These Defence Corridors are being developed around existing defence production facilities and aim to set up new industry clusters to create a synergistic supply chain of MSMEs and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) with necessary testing and certification facilities, export facilitation centres, technology transfer facilitation etc.
In each Defence Corridor, one major cluster of defence production units around an anchor unit will be developed in one of the Nodes of the Defence Corridor.
Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor:
The UP Defence Industry Corridor was announced by the Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi at the UP Investors Summit in February 2018. The corridor will leverage the existing manufacturing capabilities in the state to create a robust defence manufacturing ecosystem in partnership with the industry.
Major nodes: Aligarh, Agra, Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Kanpur and Lucknow
The state is home to 9 Major Ordnance Factories, 3 major manufacturing units of HAL and one major BEL unit
DRDO, ASERDC-HAL, etc. have established R&D centres in the state
Existing enabling infrastructure:
Strategically located along the Golden Quadrilateral with excellent road network
Alongside the catchment area of AKIC and EDFC
Agra Lucknow Expressway
Major national & international airports connecting the rest of India
Strong Logistics infrastructure – at Kanpur, Dadri, Boraki, Varanasi
Investment opportunities in the corridor:
Defence Park at Jhansi, Agra, Kanpur
Aerospace Park at Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra
Expansion of Defence Public Sector Units (DPSUs)
The Uttar Pradesh state government has formulated a Defence & Aerospace Manufacturing Policy focused on:
Attracting Defence PSUs, Mega and Anchor projects
Promoting development of Private Defence Parks with plug & play facilities
The Uttar Pradesh Defence & Aerospace Manufacturing Policy 2018:
This policy takes ahead the vision and objectives of State’s Industrial Investment and Employment Promotion Policy 2017 (IIEPP 2017) with sectoral focus and supplements the Civil Aviation Policy 2017, and UP MSME Policy 2017.
Providing attractive incentives, this policy provides strategic direction for development of the D&A sector in the state for the next five years.
